The JRA along with the transport sector took part in their 2nd Are Sebetseng clean it up campaign addressed and lead by the Executive Director or transport. The walk started from Rahima Moosa Street until Eloff Street making a U-turn on Kerk Street and back to the JRA head office.
Are Sebetseng is an initiative that was started by the Executive Mayor of the JRA in 2017 October. It takes place every 3rd Saturday of the month and every Wednesdays for JRA employers. This initiative is to promote cleanliness in the city and to encourage citizens to take care of their city, it is a non-paying initiative, and people volunteer to be part of this campaign as a way of contributing to the cleanness of the city.
Lisa Seftel Executive of the Department of Transport also participated in the Are Sebetseng clean it up campaign she added that "A lot of the Rea Vaya commuter would know that once you enter the Rea Vaya stations as well as the buses no smoking, eating and drinking is permitted this is also a way to promote and encourage cleanliness in the city as well as cleanness in the Rea Vaya stations and buses".
Selina Khumalo (58) was one of the Are Sebetseng volunteers she said it was her 3rd time volunteering. What encouraged her to be part of this initiative was the condition in which the city was as compared to the way it was back in the 90s, "when I look at how dirty the city is now I get so angry, the streets are so dirty and with that I realised I must do something to change this and that is the reason I volunteer".
